Our goal is to
offer our customers a complete and thorough bus specification that
will meet all state and federal requirements and provide a unit that
is built to last. The specifications we provide will also meet all
your transportation needs and will be cost effective in routine
maintenance. We can provide a bus specification that is specific
enough to keep quality at the highest level yet generic enough to
allow competitive bidding from all available bus dealers to assure
the lowest price per unit.
Buses are complex pieces of equipment that are
custom built by every manufacturer. There are endless options
available. The so-called "standard unit" is inadequate for most
transportation applications. When it come to buses, the phrase "you
get what you pay for" could not be any truer in its meaning. There
are many secondary manufacturers providing product to the bus
manufacturers. Secondary manufacturers provide items such as
seating, lighting and air conditioning. It takes years of experience
to know and understand what will work best in any given
application.
A bus
has many different major components. There is a chassis that
consists of the base frame and power sources of your bus. It
contains the engine, transmission, braking system, front and rear
axles, steering system, to name a few. There are options of horse
power and engine torque which also determine which transmission you
may need. There are options on the front and rear axles that
determine the overall size of braking system that is best. You have
air and hydraulic braking systems that offer different pro and cons
to the bus. The steering wheel can have several options, like
telescoping, tilt and cruise controls. In some school buses the door
and eight-way light controls can be in the steering wheel. The
charging system and battery storage capacity also need to be
evaluated for top performance. This is to mention only a few of the
many options available on the chassis and each of these options has
several variances.
The bus body is mounted on a chassis. Sometimes
the body and chassis are made by the same manufacturer, however
often times they are not. This is especially true in the small and
mid size commercial buses used by churches, tour operators, nursing
homes and hospitals, small charter operators, and many others.
Options available in the body are even more complicated than what is
available in the chassis. Thorough knowledge of State and Federal
requirements as well as the compatibility with components used on
the chassis is critical at this point. One needs to look at the seat
plan, the weight analysis, the type of people you will be
transporting and the need for special type of transportation
equipment such as wheelchair access. How large of an
air-conditioning system do you need? What type of seats and what
options on the seats do you need? What lighting options, sound
systems, flooring, or other options do you require? Whether
purchasing a school bus or a commercial bus these options are very
important to the longevity and dependability of your bus
operation.
It takes years of experience to know and understand all of the different options and how they affect the overall performance of your bus. We at Bus Specifications Consultants have that experience. The small fee we charge to write a quality bus specification to ensure that what you are buying is what you need can truly be a peace of mind. Our fee provides more than just writing your bus specifications. We will analyze all of the bus bids you receive from the bus dealers and determine if they are meeting the specifications we have written. We then give you our recommendation as to which bus best meets your transportation needs. We provide all of this service for a low cost fee of $500 per specification for school and mid-size commercial buses, or $750 for large commercial buses. If you are buying one or fifty buses
the price is the same for each specification written. If you need
more than one style of bus then it will require another set of
specifications. When considering that you will be spending a minimum
of $50,000.00 to $150,000.00 for a small bus and as much as several
hundred thousand for a large commercial bus, our service is a very
wise investment for your company or business.
